Privacy Policy

Overview

Luna Calorie (“Luna”, “we”, “us”) helps you track your meals and nutrition. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your choices. We never sell your personal information.

Account is required

You must sign in to use Luna Calorie — either with an email and password or through Google Sign-In. Your account is managed by Firebase Authentication, which stores your email address and, if you use Google Sign-In, your name and profile photo.

Data we store in your account

Your food journal, weight history, goals, dietary preferences, streaks, and achievements are saved to Cloud Firestore (Google Firebase) so they sync across your devices. A copy is cached locally so the app works offline.

How AI features process your data

When you use AI-powered features, the following content is sent to our backend and processed by third-party AI providers (Google Gemini and Sarvam AI) to generate results:

• Text descriptions of meals → nutrition estimates
• Photos of food → visual nutrition analysis
• Voice recordings → transcription to text
• Recent meal history → meal plan suggestions
• Weight and goal data → weekly insights and TDEE calculations

This content is processed only to fulfil your request. It is not used to train models or build advertising profiles.

Barcode scanning

Scanning a barcode sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts, an open public database. No personal information is sent.

Health Connect integration

With your permission, Luna Calorie can read weight entries from Android Health Connect and write meal nutrition data and weight logs to it. This is entirely optional and can be turned off at any time in Settings.

Data stored on your device

Your preferences (units, dietary type, notification settings, custom foods) are stored locally on your device using SharedPreferences. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to share it.

How we use information

We use the data described above to provide and improve nutrition estimates, sync your journal across devices, generate meal plans and insights, track streaks and achievements, and respond to support requests. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising, and we do not use analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs.

Your choices and rights

You can clear your food journal entries from Settings → Data & Privacy, or delete your account entirely from Settings, which removes all your data and prevents re-registration. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information — contact us to make a request.

Account deletion and data retention

When you delete your account, we permanently remove all your data from Firestore and delete your Firebase Auth account. A record of the deletion (your UID and email) is kept to prevent re-registration with the same email. On-device data remains until you uninstall the app.

Children’s privacy

Luna Calorie is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. You must be at least 13 years old to use the app.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
