Overview
Luna Calorie (“Luna”, “we”, “us”) helps you track your meals and nutrition. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your choices. We never sell your personal information.
Account is required
You must sign in to use Luna Calorie — either with an email and password or through Google Sign-In. Your account is managed by Firebase Authentication, which stores your email address and, if you use Google Sign-In, your name and profile photo.
Data we store in your account
Your food journal, weight history, goals, dietary preferences, streaks, and achievements are saved to Cloud Firestore (Google Firebase) so they sync across your devices. A copy is cached locally so the app works offline.
How AI features process your data
When you use AI-powered features, the following content is sent to our backend and processed by our backend and the providers configured for that feature (currently Microsoft Azure AI Foundry for nutrition, photo, meal-plan, and insight requests; Sarvam AI for voice transcription) to generate results:
- Text descriptions of meals → nutrition estimates
- Photos of food → visual nutrition analysis
- Voice recordings → Sarvam AI transcription, then the resulting text is reviewed
- Meal history and selected dietary preferences → meal-plan suggestions
These services receive the information needed to fulfil the request. We do not have a verified provider-specific retention period to publish here; provider handling is subject to the applicable service terms and privacy notices. Avoid submitting information you do not want processed by these services.
Barcode scanning
Scanning a barcode sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts, an open public database. No personal information is sent.
Health integrations
Luna does not currently connect to Android Health Connect. The app does not read or write Health Connect data.
Data stored on your device
Preferences (units, dietary type, notification settings, custom foods) are cached locally using SharedPreferences and synced to your account in Cloud Firestore when you are signed in. They remain available offline and sync again when you reconnect.
How we use information
We use the data described above to provide and improve nutrition estimates, sync your journal across devices, generate meal plans and insights, track streaks and achievements, and respond to support requests. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. The Android app uses Firebase Analytics for selected activation, logging, correction, and feature-use events. Event parameters describe actions and entry source; meal text, photos, audio, weight values, and calorie values are not included in those events. Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers reminders and optional product messages according to your notification settings. Firebase App Check and Google Play Integrity help verify requests from the Android app. The public landing page does not load an analytics SDK.

Your choices and rights
You can clear food journal entries from Settings → Data & Privacy, or request account deletion from Settings. Account deletion removes the Firebase Auth account and starts server-side removal of account data; if cleanup cannot finish immediately, the server retries it and the app reports that deletion is pending. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information — contact us to make a request.
Account deletion and data retention
Account deletion first removes your Firebase Auth account and then removes its account data from Firestore. A server-side cleanup record allows failed removals to be retried. After cleanup completes, a marker stores a one-way hash of your email and an expiry timestamp of 30 days so Luna's sign-up flow can help prevent immediate re-registration with the same email. Automatic expiry of these records has not been verified, so we cannot promise that they are removed after 30 days. Export files are temporary local files; when you export again, the app attempts to remove files it generated more than 24 hours earlier. Sharing a file may create a copy outside Luna. Local cached data may remain on the device after account deletion; sign out and remove the app or clear its storage to remove local copies.
Children’s privacy
Luna Calorie is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. You must be at least 13 years old to use the app.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
